Step
One: Meet a Greyhound
Come to one of our scheduled events, and spend some time interacting
with greyhounds. Think about what kinds of personality traits you
like in the dogs, and what kind of dog would best fit with your family
and lifestyle
Step
Two: Educate Yourself
Read through MNGR's website, and check out books like "Retired
Racing Greyhounds for Dummies" by Lee Livingood. This will help
you make an informed decision about whether a greyhound is the right
dog for you. Buy
this book from MNGR now!
Step
Three: Ask Yourself These
Questions
Step
Four: Fill out an Application
Step
Five: Try a Greyhound On for Size
Based on our conversations with you, we'll have you meet some available
hounds. This will either take place at our kennel in Inver Grove Heights,
at a hound's foster home, or at a Meet n Greet. We require that every
person in the household and every other dog in the household be present
at this meeting.
Step
Six: Do a Home Visit
One of MNGR's representatives will come to your home (no, you don't
have to bake us cookies, and we know you are not Martha Stewart, there
will be no white-glove test). We are looking to see whether your home
is realistically equipped to house a greyhound. We're looking for
things like poisonous plants, super slippery floors, glass knick-knacks
at tail height, and other things that could be hazardous to the hound.
This is also a time for you to ask every question you can think of,
in preparation for your new family member. We prefer that all members
of the family who will interact with the hound be present.
Step
Seven: Welcome Your New Baby Home!
Note:
Our adoption fee is $200. This helps cover, but does not entirely
cover, the dog's spay/neuter, shots, heartworm check, physical exam,
transportation from the track, and care/food while the dog is with
us.
